Beyond the Music; Getting to Know Sone G

Updated: Oct 10, 2023

We've been seeing him around and watching his gradually increasing reach and impact as he shares his genuine love for God and people! Then, once we connected with him, we knew we had to make sure you get to know him, too! It's time for us to get to know the down-to-earth, devoted, minister of God - SONE G! Let's go!

PAJE: What's your Story? What truly got Sone G to the place where he is ministering through music and on this powerful purposeful journey?

Sone G: At my core I was always a music lover. I grew up surrounded by sound systems one being owned by my family. I was one of the boys who would make music on the desks in class at school, always having a positive vibes.

I got saved at the age of 12 just before entering my second year at Clarendon College High School where I played football and further my love for both music and the sport. Growing up in my home church (Rocky Point Church of God of Prophecy) was the best experience a young man could have had growing up in church.

A lot of young people and a vibrant youth ministry. So I was formed by the influence of all these factors but I loved being a minister and I loved singing over songs from the Gospel Reggae artiste that were just coming on the scene like Progidal and Dj Nicholas to name a few. One of my greatest musical influence though is a fellow artiste, Jason Royalte.

He was just excellent at writing and the crafting of words to make rhymes. I was a very intentional youth and I was fixed on being a Christ re-presenter through ministry whether speaking or though music.

PAJE: Tell us 5 things about yourself that people wouldn't readily know

a. I played Dacosta cup for Clarendon College

b. I am a pretty decent chef (Maybe we should test him on that, right PAJE fam?)

c. I was apart of a duo called Positiv NRG

d. I am a Licensed Minister (Reverend) in the Church of God

e. I made wicked kites,....at least when I was younger :)

PAJE: We noticed that you're from Clarendon; what are 3 things you miss/love most about your parish?

- I miss having roast fish and bulla

- Just the general energy and vibes of Rocky Point

-I am always going to miss my family and friends that are still there

We took some time to digest all of Sone's songs and one thing is for sure, his music is definitely meant to get you moving, thinking about life, and motivating you to walk in true alignment with God. Check out his latest song, Spirit A Move:

The song, while it gets you moving, also really speaks about the importance of ensuring that your walk with God is evident. Anytime people see us as Christians, are they seeing a reflection of Christ's teachings based on Holy Spirit's consistent guidance?

We also really loved the visuals for this track and we're excited about what's ahead for 2022 and Sone G!

Let's jump back in, shall we?

PAJE: How would you describe your musical style?

It's a blend of old school dance-hall and a hint of the modern day style. initially I went a little far with the modern style then I realized that the hardcore nature of our music still has a place so I successfully fused eras I would say. A little Shabba Ranks, a bit of Assassin and a hint of Alkaline sound.

PAJE: Name 5 of your biggest musical inspirations

a. Dj Nicholas, has been tremendous in my musical Journey, a dear friend and a brother in the Kingdom. I can always call on him.

b. I Mentioned Jason Royalte earlier, but he was invaluable in my earlier years.

c. Papa San, he is probably my favorite artiste to date. He just has a way with his delivery that appeals to me.

d. The producers that God has allowed in my life, Dj Shane, New Life, DaJourney these guys are constantly elevating the music and I happen to just be growing with them.

e. One of my biggest influence is still my upbringing, I think everything starts there, the love for the music and the appetite to want to do it every day for the Glory of God is an absolute blessing.

It was truly awesome learning more about Sone G, and we're sure you feel the same! So, PAJE Fam, we're not going to just leave you hanging - we know there's more to uncover! We've got more coming about Sone G in our upcoming publication so be sure to look out for more about him as we all seek to journey together in Christ!
