Building intimacy: Waiting on the Lord

"God, I just want You"

Very often when we hear about waiting on the Lord it's made in reference to trusting God's timing to show up, do the miraculous or Him opening the windows of heaven and pouring out a blessing we have no room to contain but what if I told you that waiting is more than a test of patience? What if waiting on the Lord has more to do with God than it has to do with you and your needs?

Apostle Dwayne Wedderburn defines waiting on the Lord as a time of moving your agenda out of the way and minimizing your wish list to just one thing; “God, I want You.” It’s a time of taking your attention off your every situation and circumstance, wants and needs and fixing your eyes on the eternal God of heaven, drawing near to Him so that He can draw near to You. Waiting on the Lord is day and night of just “Lord, I want You” and during that time nothing else matters because more of God is all you want and is all that your heart desires.

It's really a time just to place all your attention and affection on God not because you want Him to supply all your needs according to His riches in glory but because you desire to be where He is and to know Him for who He is. So when the prophet, Isaiah, said "they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary and they shall walk and not faint" it was a declaration that people who spend time in the presence of the Lord asking only for more of Him will indeed perform greater works because their vessels and capacities are being expanded to receive more of God and they will move and operate in His strength and might.

How do you wait on the Lord?

  1. Set aside an uninterrupted waiting time.

  2. Choose a meeting place.

  3. Consecrate the space where you’ll meet with Him.

  4. Show up; present yourself at the place you said you would, at the time that you said you would.

  5. Pray and consecrate yourself, repent ask the Lord to remove every blockage and hindrance to you meeting with Him.

  6. Worship.

  7. Ask for more of Him and allow Him to have His way

In 2024 let us consistently and diligently build intimacy with the Lord by waiting on Him. We want to be mighty vessels filled with power from on high but all of what we desire and so much more is found in the presence of the Lord and in a having a deep relationship with Him. Revelations of the mysteries of His kingdom are unfolded to those who seek Him with their whole heart. Just think about it, who tells strangers their deepest secrets?

This year we're raising the standard by building intimacy with God as we return to His presence. Seek Him, desire Him, have a deep hunger to know Him and His ways, pursue Him. Wait on the Lord.
